My Internet connection is about 10Mb/s (slow for today standards). But it is not the download because the updates are downloaded in your computer even before you start updating your device. The needed conversion of the maps takes less than a minute. However, the connection of your computer's USB to Garmin device is the clog. Download (2.75 MB) View installation instructions and system requirements. Notes: MapConverter converts maps and unlock codes on your Windows PC to the Macintosh format. View instructions on migrating Garmin map products from Windows to the Mac here. (PDF file- 245KB) Please send issues to email protected. After being notified that the 2016 maps are available, I connect my sat-nav to Garmin Express and it starts to download. It tells me to keep my device plugged into the computer during installation. However, despite the fact that I can download data at 30 MBPS, after 13 hours it's stuck on 'estimated time remaining: 1 hour 33 minutes'. Over here the update machanism is very slow too. And it isn't my computers fault. No other program on my computer updates as slow as the Garmin map update. Actually my internet connection is a 150Mbit/sec connection. All my downloads are very fast (around 10-18 megabyte per second, depending on the sites I use). My PC is not the fault. I have an up to date IMac desk top computer and have downloaded many map updates in the past. When i try to download the latest map update to my 1490T Nuvi the down load time is so slow that i have stopped it reloaded the map download and tried again to get the same snail slow results. I have a high speed cable internet connection. Have rebooted the computer and rebooted the internet modem. Has any one else experienced a problem with the new map update. Thank you all for your help.

- The Garmin servers are often heavily loaded when a new map update comes out so it's not unusual for the map download to be slow. Add to that, that since Sandy hit the east coast of the US there have been a number of major web hosts down in the NYC area and you can easily explain why you are having issues.
- Thank you for the courtesy of a reply. Sounds reasonable. Will just leave it overnight to download. Hope leaving it overnight won't cause any errors with the map download.
Paul - You should be OK. I have updated both my current Nuvi's overnight with no problems. Just to be safe, I'd insure your Nuvi isn't attached to a USB hub and is attached to a USB port that always alive. Also I turn off my screensaver and make sure the OS is set to not go to sleep.
- Hi,
I updated my Europe maps a few days ago, it took me ages to download, so I agree that Garmin's servers are very busy.
Regards,
Paul - I set my Nuvi up at about a little past midnight to down load using the map updater and it finally completed about 2 hours later. I guess it was because of the storm and the Garmin site being slow.Just want to thank you all again for being so helpful. What a wonderful bunch of people.
Paul O - If Garmin are distributing all their files themselves - it is time they researched the use of content delivery companies who hold the files for delivery to the end user. See Akamai for example.
They have many servers across the globe so that the user can access the files within a very limited number of links. - Spending a couple hours to update maps four times a year doesn't really sound like much of a 'problem' that needs fixing. :)
- Actually GarminMapUpdater uses Akamai. Most transfer problems aren't at delivery side.
- For quite a few people based on reports on various forums many people spent more than a couple of hours downloading the maps - so this time around there was a problem.
- edited November 2012Note that Paul O is from Staten Island. Our friends across the sea may not be aware of the situation there. I doubt that many Staten Island residents are worried about map download times. My heart goes out to all who have suffered from this terrible storm and I hope you find relief soon.
http://www.nj.com/news/index.ssf/2012/11/battered_by_sandy_staten_islan.html - Actually us folk outside of the US are aware of the effects of Sandy - we also do not need an inset map to show us where it is (in the manner of US Today).
- I called out for help on this site because i felt i needed it. Yes I live on Staten Island and do not have to be reminded of the horrendous devastation and grief all around me. But we all deal with grief in our own way, and to make a low blow in your remark is completely uncalled for. This site is to help each other not to knock each other.
Paul O - Paul, I would like to apologize for any offense in my post, I didn't mean it as a low blow, just an explanation of the situation and how it might affect downloads for someone who might not know. People near me have also suffered terrible losses, I was just lucky here.
- Boyd, apology accepted. We are all stressed out at this point. New Jersey and New York is going thru hell. All our hearts break at what we are seeing and experiencing. You have been a great help to people on this web site, and I wish you well.
Paul O - And we wish you all well from across the pond, having watched the tragedy unfold on our TVs. We wish you all a speedy recovery :)
We use open source maps downloaded to our Garmin GPS. A friend taught us how to download free maps to our GPS when we were in Mexico. We are forever indebted to him for showing us how to do this. It saved us lots of money since we didn’t have to purchase the maps from Garmin and the open source maps are updated more frequently. I have passed on the how-to steps to individuals along the way and wanted to share the information more broadly. So, here we present step-by-step instructions.
Using Open Source Street Maps for use on a Garmin
We took the technology inside Odesi and broke it apart into “modular” VSTs that you can add to individual MIDI channels. https://cleverbids281.weebly.com/mixed-in-key-mac-crack-download.html. You can put on a new MIDI channel inside Ableton Live, Captain Melody on your Melody channel, and so on.

Choice 1 – a predefined country

• Example, using the Asia drop down, choose “Laos” and then at step 4 (request map) you will see “download map now” link on the screen immediately. Note: download map now does not always work so see step 4.
• Click on the download map now link and another window will open
• Download the file with the name “osm_generic_new_gmapsupp.zip” and the description says “compressed file containing a single image that can be placed directly onto the SD card of the GPS”. On my MAC it downloads as an image and not as a zip file so it is easy to place in the folder; this might be different on a PC.

Troubleshooting:
• The main issue that can happen is that the map isn’t working. The usual issue is that the Garmin is confused because there is more than one map on the Garmin. You have already made sure that the SD card has only one image and that the folder is called “garmin” and there shouldn’t be any other folders on that SD card. If it still isn’t working then plug your Garmin into your computer and look at the files on its hard drive. If there is another file named “garmin” then this is where your conflict is occurring. Remove that file (make a copy of anything you are deleting before deletion as you may need it later).

• I did this on one person’s Garmin device that didn’t have an SD card so we were putting the new map image into a “garmin” folder on the hard drive. But, before I did that I deleted the old files (before deleting I had saved a copy onto my computer). What I didn’t realize is that the old file had contained information that would put the map image into different languages. He needed his map to be in French. I was able to go back and move over the language files onto his Garmin from the folder I had taken off. Spotify playlist to itunes free. I got help doing this from a YouTube video after searching for adding languages to a Garmin.
